Laptop Batteries

Is my laptop battery covered under warranty?

Laptop batteries are NOT covered by our warranty cover.

Once you purchase a laptop with us it may have up to 1 Years Manufacturer's Warranty (subject to misuse). If the battery needs to be replaced within this time period, it may be valid for a free replacement. Please note: This is from the date that is included on your invoice.

If it is after 1 Year, the manufacturer will not cover this and a new battery will be chargeable.

Please contact us for the manufacturer's details. You can then contact them directly or we can do this on your behalf if you wish.

Please note: Should you decide to purchase a replacement battery, it must be a genuine manufacturer replacement. If a replacement is bought and it is not a genuine manufacturer's product, this will null and void your maintenance with Concept Northern. Concept Northern also does not recommend the use of universal power adapters.

How can I preserve my laptop battery?

Here are some tips for preserving your device's battery life:

  • Reduce screen brightness - Lowering the brightness significantly increases battery life. Use auto-brightness if available to automatically adjust based on ambient light.
  • Enable power saving mode - This reduces performance a bit but can greatly increase battery life. It manages background data and activity.
  • Close out background apps - Apps running in the background can drain battery. Close out apps you're not using.
  • Disable location services - Location tracking also uses battery. Only turn it on when needed for certain apps.
  • Minimize push notifications - The more that come in, the more battery used. Disable notifications you don't need.
  • Avoid extreme temps - Try to keep your device at moderate temps. Very cold/hot temps can affect battery life.
  • Limit gaming and video - These resource-heavy activities drain a lot of power. Use them in moderation.
  • Let the battery discharge - It's best not to keep devices plugged in once fully charged. Allow it to drain periodically.
  • Maintain the device - Check for software updates, restart occasionally, and follow the manufacturer's tips.

How can I tell if my laptop battery has died or stopped working?

Here are some signs that may indicate your laptop battery has died or reached end of life:

    • Laptop won't turn on without being plugged into a power source. The laptop immediately powers off when unplugged.
    • Battery percentage gets stuck at 0% and the laptop dies shortly after unplugging despite showing some charge.
    • Laptop operates normally while plugged in but instantly dies the moment the AC adapter is removed.
    • Laptop runs on battery power for a very short period of time (few minutes or less) before shutting down, even when fully charged.
    • Battery indicator light on the laptop is flashing or on but battery won't charge beyond 0 or 1%.
    • Laptop refuses to boot up on battery power even when battery shows to be sufficiently charged.
    • Battery does not charge at all, charging indicator light does not come on when connected to adapter.
    • Laptop runs significantly hotter than usual when powered on and not charging properly.
    • Battery Icon (Bottom right of laptop screen) has an X symbol.
    • Battery not showing at all within windows.

What should I do if my laptop battery has died?

Please contact our Technical Support Team. They will then assess your technical issues and may offer you a quote to replace the battery.

What happens if the battery is changed and the issue still persists?

If the issue persists after a battery replacement, it likely indicates an internal hardware problem which may be covered by our mechanical breakdown warranty.  If this is the case, we would then swap out the hardware that is broken or find a suitable replacement laptop for you.  We will also refund you the amount paid for the new battery.
